Ideal addition to PMUTs
Our new, powerful 175 kHz multi-use transducer SC517 is ideal for use with highly sensitive PMUTs. It was specially developed for applications that require reliable ultrasonic transmission combined with high sensitivity in reception.
Thanks to the redesign of the matching material, the SC517 impresses with a particularly strong echo signal and excellent performance in the working range between 0.1 and 1 meter. Its robust construction in a sheet metal shield, comparatively large range, and cost-effective design make it the ideal solution for compact and demanding ultrasonic applications.

PMUTs (piezoelectric micromechanical ultrasonic transducers) have been commercially available for several years and are characterized by their high sensitivity and small size. Compared to other ultrasonic sensors, they are weak transmitters but highly sensitive receivers—perfect for precise measurements with low energy consumption.
This combination gave rise to the idea of a hybrid ultrasonic sensor system: The SECO SC517 ultrasonic transducer performs the transmission function, while a PMUT acts as a highly sensitive receiver. This solution combines range, precision, and energy efficiency—ideal for modern applications in industry, robotics, and consumer electronics.

The SC5X series features our multi-use transducer in a redesigned form with further improved performance. The new models combine the comparatively high range of focused ultrasonic transducers with the fast repetition rate of pulsed transducers—ideal for a wide range of industrial applications.

Miniaturized ultrasonic technology with PMUTs
PMUTs (Piezoelectric Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducers) are miniaturized ultrasonic transducers based on the piezoelectric effect. Compared to conventional ultrasonic transducers, they offer significantly higher integration capability and particularly low power consumption—ideal for portable and compact applications.
Design and functionality
Made from thin piezoelectric layers on silicon substrates, PMUTs enable precise measurements and small-scale imaging. They are used in numerous industrial areas, such as automotive engineering, medical technology, robotics, and in mobile devices for distance measurement and gesture recognition.

Another advantage of PMUTs is their compatibility with modern semiconductor processes.
