Perfect partner for PMUTs – our new, powerful 175 kHzmulti-use transducer SC517 is ideal for combining with highly sensitive PMUTs.

After revision of the matching material design, the SC517 is characterized above all by a strong echo signal and excellent performance in a working range between 0.1 and 1 meter. It has a comparatively long range, a robust construction in a sheet metal shield and a cost-effective design. This makes the SC517 the perfect partner for PMUTs. PMUTs (piezoelectric micromechanical ultrasonic transducers), which have been available on the global market for several years, are weak transmitters but highly sensitive receivers compared to other ultrasonic sensors. This gave rise to the idea of a combined ultrasonic sensor system: the SECO SC517 ultrasonic transducer as a transmitter together with a highly sensitive PMUT as a receiver.

Details of the PMUT

PMUTs (Piezoelectric Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducers) are miniaturized ultrasonic transducers based on piezoelectric effects. Compared to conventional ultrasonic transducers, PMUTs offer higher integration capability and lower power consumption, making them ideal for portable and compact applications. They consist of thin piezoelectric layers fabricated on silicon substrates. PMUTs are used in numerous industrial applications where they enable precise measurement and imaging on a small scale. Their small size and efficiency in particular make them a key technology in modern ultrasound technology.
