The path to becoming an occupational safety specialist

Training to become an occupational safety specialist is demanding and varied. The training was provided by the German Social Accident Insurance Institution for the Energy, Textile, Electrical, Media Products and Information Technology Sectors (BG ETEM) and comprised seven practical seminars, intensive self-study via a learning platform, and four internship phases at the company itself.

Bastian invested a total of around 700 hours in this training—spread over a period of two years. This time included not only seminars and self-study, but also preparation for the exams that ensured learning success. These exams guarantee that occupational safety specialists have not only theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills.

The training content – a broad spectrum

Social policy foundations of safety and health in the workplace

Assessment of working conditions, identification of hazards

Operational roles and responsibilities for safety and health

Explanatory and descriptive models for occupational safety

Basics of consulting, conflict management

Why is this qualification so important?

“During two years of intensive training, I was able to gain valuable theoretical and practical knowledge. Now I am looking forward to putting this knowledge to use and actively shaping and further improving safety in the company.”
