“We are working on the acoustic heart of modern sensor technology”

In this interview, Managing Director Eugen Gergert explains more about SECO Sensor and ultrasonic transducer development – and why a visit to the SENSOR+TEST 2026 is worthwhile

SECO Sensor Consult GmbH, based in Coburg and Küps, is one of the renowned specialists for ultrasonic transducers in Germany. Since its foundation in 1996, the company has been developing and producing high-precision components for sensor technology – with steadily growing success.
Today, 55 employees work at two locations to produce around 700,000 ultrasonic transducers every year – for a wide range of industrial applications such as:

  • Wind measurement
  • Robotics & Industry 4.0
  • Medical technology
  • Print technology
  • Agriculture

SECO Sensor’s path has been characterized by innovation, precision and steady growth right from the start. Starting in the Coburg Technology Centre, the company moved into a 3200 m² company building in 2014, which was precisely tailored to its organizational and technical requirements. Since 2004, production has also been taking place in Küps (district of Kronach), where a modern, light-flooded production hall with over 900 m² was built in 2013.

Today, SECO Sensor is consistently developing its portfolio. Originally specializing in tailor-made transducer solutions, the company is now responding to the increasing demand on the market with complementary standard products – without compromising on quality and technical excellence.

A visible sign of this change was the first trade fair appearance at the SENSOR+TEST in Nuremberg in 2024 at the joint stand of Strategische Partnerschaft e. V. – with great success. That’s why SECO will be there again in 2026: from June 9 to 11.

We spoke to Managing Director Eugen Gergert about technology, culture and strategy:

Interview with Managing Director Eugen Gergert about Sensor+Test 2025 in Nuremberg

Mr. Gergert, what exactly is SECO Sensor for a company?

SECO Sensor is a component manufacturer specializing in ultrasonic transducers that has been on the market for almost three decades. We primarily serve the sensor industry and our transducers are a very important component of ultrasonic sensors. Our transducers are used wherever precise, non-contact measurements are needed – from level measurement to flow monitoring. We develop these products ourselves, manufacture them at two sites in Upper Franconia and supply them in high quantities and quality to customers throughout Europe and worldwide.

What exactly is an ultrasonic transducer – and what characterizes a good transducer?

An ultrasonic transducer converts electrical impulses into acoustic oscillations and back again – making it both a transmitter and receiver. A good transducer is characterized by an optimized signal shape, symmetrical sound beam and high sensitivity. For the sensor, this means reliable measurement data, a long range and a long service life. The quality of the transducer has a decisive influence on the performance of the entire sensor. For us, precision is not just a buzzword, it’s a lived standard – from the development of the first prototypes to series production and 100% final testing of our products. And when we talk about innovation, we don’t just mean new ideas – we also mean the courage to actively help shape new technologies.

So not all transducers are the same? What are the differences?

Exactly. There are enormous differences – in design, frequency, impedance characteristics, directional characteristics, temperature properties or media resistance. Some applications require very small transducers, others need to be extremely robust against pressure, moisture or chemicals. Some customers want short response times, others require particularly stable temperature behavior. SECO also specializes in low-reaction mounting of ultrasonic transducers – even directly into customer-specific housings on request. We supply the right solution – not so much off the shelf, but rather on the basis of genuine technical requirements.

What makes SECO the ideal partner for this?

In addition to our many years of technical experience, it is above all our team spirit and our philosophy that set us apart. Our highly qualified employees – from development to production – work closely together in a spirit of trust.
Inspiration and customer proximity are our guiding principles: We don’t see complex tasks as an obstacle, but as an opportunity to create something new. Close communication with our customers results in solutions that are a perfect fit – both technically and economically.

How is your current service portfolio structured?

We now offer a three-level portfolio:

  1. Standard solutions – robust, proven and promptly available.
  2. Customzied variants – based on our standards, but with modified properties or designs – depending on our customers’ requirements.
  3. Individual developments – completely new transducers, tailor-made for special requirements. On request, we work closely with our customers right from the start of the development process.

This enables us to respond to very different project sizes and time frames – from short-term replacement purchases to completely new developments. Our customers benefit from the full depth of development and production under one roof.

But SECO doesn’t “only” think technically – right?

That’s right. We recognized early on that sustainability and the future are not an add-on, but part of our self-image. We have been actively taking responsibility for the environment since our company was founded and maintain a comprehensive environmental management system. Our core objectives are the reduction of CO2 emissions, waste and packaging materials, as well as the ever-increasing use of renewable energies. We operate both sites with renewable energy – through district heating, photovoltaic systems and heat pumps. And wherever possible, we pay attention to the environmental compatibility of the necessary raw materials when developing new products. In 2024, for example, we achieved official environmental certification in accordance with ISO14001:2015.

Where can I meet SECO – how can I get in touch with you?

Via our website, of course – where interested parties can find technical information, contacts and current projects. But the direct exchange is particularly exciting – for example at the SENSOR+TEST 2026 in Nuremberg. We will be there from June 9 to 11 and look forward to many personal discussions.

We hope that this interview has given you a deep insight into both the product range and the company SECO Sensor. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us!
