25 years SECO Sensor Consult

01.10.2021 | Company

In October 1996, the physicist Thomas Möckl and the graduate engineer Thomas Siebenhaar jointly took the decision to found a company for ultrasonic transducers in Coburg, Upper Franconia. With only one employee and the company headquarters in a 50 m² small plot of the Technology Center, the adventure SECO Sensor Consult GmbH began.

The demand for handmade ultrasonic transducers of the finest quality was high from the very beginning. In order to meet the demands of our first customers, we manufactured the fitting material ourselves from the beginning and according to our own recipe – at that time still in the back room of Mr. Siebenhaar’s private garage.

Just one year after the company was founded, the number of employees had doubled and sales had increased twentyfold. Since then, the signs have been pointing to growth. During the global economic crisis in 2008, we also had to cope with losses in terms of staff and sales, but fortunately recovered quickly the following year.

In 2004, we opened our second location in Küps, Upper Franconia, in order to guarantee security and delivery capability, especially for our medical customers. Here we initially rented the premises of an old kitchen studio, which quickly became too small. In 2013, we finally moved to our new 900 m² building, which was designed by a local architect in a modern and light-flooded style.

At the same time, we renovated an old industrial building in Coburg from the ground up and tailored the 3000 m² exactly to the needs of our production. Our company headquarters have been located here since the move in 2014. A previously unused part of the building is to be expanded in 2022, thus further increasing the usable space.

After 25 years, the number of our employees now amounts to 65, the company area to almost 4000 m² and our turnover to 7.3 million euros – and rising. More than 600,000 handmade ultrasonic transducers make their way to our customers all over the world every year.

On the occasion of our 25th anniversary we would like to thank our shareholders Mr. Möckl and Mr. Siebenhaar for their courage and entrepreneurial spirit, without which this company would not exist. We would also like to thank our managing director Mr. Gergert, who steers SECO confidently and calmly through all storms towards the future.

Above all, we would like to thank all our colleagues who make SECO so successful through their tireless commitment and team spirit. Stay as you are! Together we will rock the next 25 years!
